Bort is a wall jumping platform game which will initially be created for PC. Release on other platforms is also planned.

The player takes control of Bort, the demon god of mountain goats. He is bored of working in hell and decides to leave. Trouble is "The Boss", doesn't like his minions wandering off.
So Bort will have to try and get out undetected. Avoiding traps, lava pits, Fuggers, Furies, the 7 sins, the "machines" and many other horrible nasties that lurk in the deep places of Hell.

Animatic update

Did another animatic. Test run of a level created in maya on 2D planes with alpha'd textures. Also test idle animation on Bort.

The red lava looks a little orange due to compression

Vectorised Level

This is one of the concept levels vectorised to the new art style.

This version without DOF and lava heat haze.

Bort prototype



This is the first prototype of Bort's jumping mechanic.

The large cirles represents Bort's torso and the small cirles represent his hands.

The level geometry is created randomly in code.

Movement controlled with XBox analog controller only. The player jumps by pulling back in the opposite direction that they want to go and release the stick. This is like a catapult mechanic.

Jump animation (very rough)



At this point i'm not really sure how we'll be animating and rendering Bort in the game. 3D model, baked animation or 2D sprites. Either way I'll be needing a fully animated 3D model to work from. And as its been ages since I animated anything I made a very quick rig and roughed out this animation as a test. I'll need to go back and do a proper rig at some point.

I like the parallaxing but I think I can push it further to give it more depth. Also the colours in the background tend to blend a little too much. I'll mess around with the colour palette to try and seperate the layers a little more.

Introduction: Bort "To Hell with Hell!"


Bort is a devil. Specifically, Bort is the demon god of mountain goats. His job is to make the souls of wicked and evil mountain goats as uncomfortable as possible while they are in Hell.... for all eternity. Trouble is, mountain goats aren't very wicked or evil and are generally nice beasts. This means Bort doesn't have a lot to do most days and he is bored of Hell. So Bort decides to leave Hell and see what else is out there. Trouble is, his boss Beelze Bob doesn't like his minions wandering off. So Bort will have to try and get out undetected. Avoiding traps, lava pits, Fuggers, Furies, the 7 sins, the "machines" and many other horrible nasties that lurk in the deep places of Hell.
